Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, UK enrol first baby in world to join cannabis therapy trial

In a world-first, the brilliant team at Norfolk and Norwich Hospital enrolled the first baby to a cannabis-derived trial in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Following an emergency caesarean section, Oscar Parodi joined the trial within hours. This cannabis-based treatment aims to reduce brain injury in babies with Neonatal Hypoxic-ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE). The trial has also enrolled a second child and it is expected to report its findings in a years time.

The babies will receive a single dose or placebo alongside the standard hypothermia treatment for HIE.

Oscar is currently reported to be ‘doing well’.
